Simple sugars are actually healthier for the body than the standard white sugar you purchase at your local grocery stores. White sugar is bleached. The natural color of sugar is a light brown, believe it or not. If you buy raw sugar at Whole Foods Market or a health food store you will see the difference for yourself.

Then, you have the options of honey or even agave syrup. They are both beneficial for you diabetics out there. Plus, one particular fact about agave is the lighter the color the lower it is on the glycemic index.

Lastly, you have fruit. Berries are actually alright for individuals on a low-carbohydrate diet. So there are other sweet treats out there.

  1. Sarah, what about sugar alternatives? My mom is a big believer in one of the sugar substitutes, though I can’t remember the name of it right now!

I’m fascinated by this topic! I do drink coffee, but I usually drink it with milk or half & half, and forgo sugar.

I appreciate you writing on this topic as I would love to learn more about different substances, such as sugar, and find healthy alternatives to some of the things I may be eating! Thanks!
